Accessibility and Availability of Safe Water

About 2,5 billion people still lack improved sanitation facilities and 768 million people still use unsafe drinking water sources. The Zimbabwe Demographic Health Survey asserts that large proportions of the rural population indicated poor access to improved sanitation facilities as open defecation was still a threat and reliable and safe water sources are very scarce. On 28 July 2010, through Resolution 64/292, the UN General Assembly explicitly recognized the human right to water and sanitation and acknowledged that clean drinking water and sanitation are essential to the realisation of all human rights.

The proposed project seeks to map all existing water sources in Makora rural community, present and analyse the spatial distribution of these sources. The analysed data will be used by Life Giving Foundation and interested partners, to determine the proposed sites for installing new sustainable solar powered water sources in this community.
